
McFarland Sets Program 800-Meter Record at Michigan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Trent McFarland of the University of Michigan men's track and field team set the program record in the 800-meter run on Saturday (Feb. 8) as the Wolverines played host to the Michigan Invitational at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
McFarland finished first with a program-record time of 1:47.22, besting the previous standard of 1:47.37 set by Miles Brown in 2022. Brown finished second on Saturday with a time of 1:47.25, while Camden Law finished third (1:47.39) and Jonathan Miles finished fourth (1:49.35). All three set personal bests, with Brown and Law's times coming in No. 2 and No. 3 on the program performer's list, respectively.
The Wolverines swept the top-five finishes in the mile run, with Brendan Herger finishing first (3:59.66). Heath McAllister finished second with a time of 4:02.55, Aiden Sullivan finished third with a time of 4:02.94, Ian Hill finished fourth with a time of 4:03.01 and Peter Baracco finished fifth with a time of 4:05.77. Herger, Sullivan, Hill and Baracco all ran personal-best times.
Tianhao Wei won the long jump with a personal-best mark of 7.07m (23 feet, 2.5 inches) and the triple jump with a season-best mark of 15.12m (49-7.25). John McNeil tied his season best to win the high jump (2.11m/6-11).
In the weight throw, Eli Winter threw for a season-best 20.18m (66-2.50) to finish first, and Jake Steslicki finished fourth (18.61m, 61-0.75).
Michigan will hit the road for a pair of meets next week. Select Wolverines will head to Clemson, S.C., for the Tiger Paw Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 14-15), while others will be in Boston, Mass., on Saturday (Feb. 15) for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
