COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team placed second at the Big Ten Quad Meet on Saturday evening (March 1) with a score of 196.300 at the Xfinity Center.
The Wolverines finished behind Minnesota, which scored a 196.625 to earn the victory, while Maryland placed third with a 196.125 and Illinois rounded out the event with a 195.275.
Graduate student Carly Bauman won a share of the floor exercise title as she tied a career-best 9.925 and finished second on the uneven bars. Sophomore Kayli Boozer tied for second on the beam and debuted on the vault with a 9.850, while Jahzara Ranger tied a career-best 9.900 on both floor and vault.
Freshman Peyton Davis tied a career best on floor and vault and made her debut on the beam, and Sophie Parenti stuck two landings and tied a career best on floor.
Parenti led off the uneven bars with a stuck landing and a 9.800, and Sophia Diaz scored a 9.850 in the third spot in the first rotation. Bauman led Michigan with a 9.875 and U-M sat in third with a score of 49.150.
Boozer paced Michigan on the balance beam with a 9.825 and a stuck landing, while Parenti stuck her second landing of the night. The Wolverines remained third at the halfway point with a running score of 97.925. Minnesota led the field with a 98.625, Maryland sat in second with a 98.525 and Illinois scored 97.050.
The Wolverines put together a big floor rotation to bring themselves into second place behind a 9.925 from Bauman and a 9.900 from Ranger. Michigan went into the final rotation with a running score of 147.200 as it sat just behind Minnesota, which carried a 147.775 into the final rotation.
Davis tied a career-best 9.825 on the vault in the second spot and Ranger tied a career-high 9.900 to lead the Wolverines in the final rotation. Boozer anchored in her vault debut and recorded a 9.850, but Michigan could not make up the difference and finished 2-1 in the meet.
U-M closes its regular-season road slate on Friday (March 7) at 7:15 p.m. CST when it faces No. 1 Oklahoma. The meet will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
