ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team closed out its regular season Saturday (March 15) with a 197.050-196.675 loss to No. 12 Alabama in the U-M's first-ever podium meet inside Crisler Center.
Freshman Sophie Parenti earned two career highs with a 9.850 on uneven bars with a stuck landing and a 9.875 on floor exercise in the leadoff spot. Freshman Peyton Davis also tied a career-best 9.850 on floor.
Graduate student Carly Bauman and Parenti shared the floor title, while Sophia Diaz led Michigan on vault and uneven bars with a 9.875 on both events.
Diaz anchored and led Michigan to a 49.000 with a 9.875, while Jenna Mulligan and Jahzara Ranger earned matching 9.800s. U-M trailed Alabama 49.250-49.000 after the first rotation.
Parenti led off the second rotation with a stuck landing and a career-best 9.850, while Diaz notched a 9.875 to lead the Maize and Blue for the second straight rotation. Jacey Vore scored a 9.850, and Bauman recorded a 9.825 to lead the Wolverines to a running score of 98.175 at the meet's halfway point.
Michigan had four 9.850s on the beam from Vore, Ranger, Mulligan and Bauman as it took a 147.400 into the final rotation of the evening. Alabama held onto the lead, carrying a running score of 147.675 through three rotations.
Parenti started U-M with a career-best 9.875 on floor, and Davis followed with a career-best-tying 9.850 in the second spot. Diaz recorded a 9.825 in the third slot, and Bauman paced the Wolverine lineup with a 9.875. Ranger anchored with a 9.850 to close out the evening.
Michigan hosts the 2025 Big Ten Championships at Crisler Center on Friday and Saturday (March 21-22). The Wolverines will compete in Session III starting at 5 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
