
Michigan to Host Big Ten Championships in Search of 28th Conference Crown

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team (10-6) hosts the 2025 Big Ten Championships on Saturday (March 22) at 5 p.m. inside Crisler Center. The Wolverines are seeking their 28th Big Ten Championship title, their last coming in 2023.
Michigan will compete in the third session of the championships along with No. 5 UCLA (13-3), No. 9 Michigan State (13-3) and No. 15 Minnesota (11-1) starting at 5 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
U-M will start on uneven bars in the first rotation and move to beam in the second rotation. Michigan will then compete on the floor in rotation three and end the meet on the vault.
Notes
• The Wolverines head into the postseason ranked in the top 20 in all four events, coming in at No. 20 on vault, No. 18 on uneven bars, No. 14 on beam and No. 16 on the floor.
• U-M will be competing for its 28th Big Ten championship, by far the most of any school in the conference. Next on the list is Minnesota and Ohio State with six and five, respectively.
• Head coach Bev Plocki has the most championships by any coach in Big Ten gymnastics history with 26. Larry Cox, former Ohio State head coach, is second with five. The 26 titles top Indiana's James (Doc) Counsilman for the most by any coach in any sport in Big Ten history.
• Michigan also leads the conference with 115 individual champions, 62 more than second-place Minnesota. The total includes 97 event titles and 18 all-around victories.
• Graduate student Carly Bauman was the 2023 Big Ten uneven bars champion and is a two-time Big Ten Championship Team honoree. Last season, Bauman tied for third on the uneven bars and tied for fourth on the beam with matching 9.900s and scored a 9.875 on floor.
• Four Wolverines were named to 2025 Big Ten All-Conference teams as announced on Monday (March 17). Bauman earned first-team honors for the second time in her career, while Kayli Boozer, Sophia Diaz and Jahzara Ranger were named to the second team. Diaz and Ranger were also named to the All-Freshman team.
• Bauman was named a nominee for the AAI Award, considered the Heisman Trophy of gymnastics, given annually to the nation's top senior women's gymnast. In the 33-year history of the award, four Michigan gymnasts have earned the honor -- Sierra Brooks (2023), Natalie Wojcik (2022), Kylee Botterman (2011) and Beth Wymer (19950.
• Freshman Sophie Parenti notched her first career title in Michigan's final regular-season meet vs. Alabama, earning a share of the floor title with a career-best 9.875. She also scored a career-high 9.850 on the uneven bars and stuck her landing for the third straight week. The Los Altos, Calif., native leads off on uneven bars, beam and floor for Michigan and has scored a 9.800 or higher on 23 of 31 career routines.
