
Rains Force Cancellation of Final Round, U-M Takes 10th in Augusta

» Following overnight rains and threats of more, combined with course conditions, the Valspar Augusta Invitational's final round was cancelled. With team tallies of 308 and 309, Michigan posted a 10th-place finish with a 617 total at the Forest Hills Golf Club.
» Sydney and Lauren Sung paced the Wolverines as they tied for 29th (153) and tied for 31st (154), respectively.

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- As rains fell overnight and more expected, the final round of the Valspar Augusta Invitational was canceled today (Sunday, March 16), giving the University of Michigan women's golf team a 10th-place finish after its 617 36-hole total at the Forest Hills Golf Club.
Michigan's Sung sisters pace the Maize and Blue as Sydney and Lauren Sung each carded opening 76s. At the same time, sophomore Grace Wang added 76 helping U-M an opening 308 total and positioning itself in a tie for ninth in overcast and rainy conditions.
Heading out for the day's second 18, redshirt-sophomore Mara Janess led with her 76, while Sydney Sung carded a 77 as the Maize and Blue followed with a 309. With a 617-team total, U-M was 10th after day one.
As the rains fell overnight and the final round was cancelled, the Wolverines closed with a 10th-place finish.
Sydney Sung led U-M with her tie for 29th at 153 (76-77), while sister Lauren Sung was a shot behind at 154 (76-78) and tied for 31st. Janess rounded out the top-three finishing Wolverines with a 156 (80-76). Wang tied for 52nd at 158, while freshman Thomasine Bartholdson made her collegiate debut also tying for 52nd (158) in her first career start.
The Wolverines will close the month of March with the first of their final two regular-season tournaments. First U-M heads to Ooltewah, Tenn., Friday through Sunday (March 28-30) for the Chattanooga Classic. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played at the Honors Course.
