
Wolverines Add Tournament, Will Head to Buckeye Classic

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After last weekend's Hoosier Collegiate was canceled due to inclement weather, the University of Michigan men's golf team found a replacement event in Columbus, Ohio. The Maize and Blue will play on Friday and Saturday (April 11-12) in the Buckeye Classic at the Columbus Country Club. The course is scheduled to be set up as a par 72, measuring 7,077 yards.

• There will be 13 teams competing at the 2025 Buckeye Classic: Abilene Christian, Bowling Green, Colgate, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Kent State, Le Moyne, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Ohio, Ohio State, Purdue Fort Wayne and Robert Morris
• Michigan's starting five will include senior Hunter Thomson, freshman Dean Muratore, freshman RJ Arone, fifth-year senior Ben Hoagland, and senior Yuqi Liu. Traveling and playing as an individual will be fifth-year senior Jack O'Donnell.
• Thomson continues to be on pace to set the U-M single-season record with his career-best 70.19 scoring average and could break his record of 70.56 (2023-24). This season, he has 15 sub-par rounds, including a season-best 66 (-6) in back-to-back rounds (first, second) in his win at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational. Overall, Thomson has 57 career rounds under par.
• Thomson has led U-M in eight events, including winning the Canadian Collegiate Invitational and posting runner-up finishes at the Qubein Cup and the Desert Mountain Collegiate. Overall, he has finished as the top Wolverine in 31 of his 45 career events. Over his last two seasons, he has produced 10 of 12 top-five finishes.
• In the fall, Thomson's victory at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational (202, -14) helped him to his second career medalist honor and gave him an exemption to play in the 2025 RBC Canadian Open (June 3-5) at the TPC of Toronto.
• Liu continues to play at a career-best pace in his final season. He is averaging a career-low 72.74 in his eight starts. He has six sub-par rounds, including a career-low-tying 68 (-4) three times. In the fall, Liu tied for medalist honors at the Virtues Intercollegiate (137, -7).
• U-M's freshman duo of Muratore and Arone have continued making an impact for the Maize and Blue. Both have played in all nine events this season, with Muratore holding a slight edge in scoring average, 73.19 to 73.58. Muratore has four top-25 finishes, while Arone has three.
• Michigan has six top-five team finishes, including a team win at the Virtues Intercollegiate (559, -17) and a runner-up finish at the Canadian Collegiate (852, -12). U-M averages 288.00 per round with nine rounds under par, including its season-low 275 (-13) tallied in the final round of the Palmas del Mar Collegiate.
• The Wolverines average 73.55 per round individually. The Wolverines have tallied 39 rounds under par with 16 even-par outings.
