ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team earned its fourth-ever victory over a top-five opponent with a dominant 13-2 win over No. 5-ranked Johns Hopkins on Sunday (April 13) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Michigan (10-4, 4-2 Big Ten) held the Blue Jays scoreless for the final 39:58 of the game and did not allow a goal in the entire second half. Senior Erin O'Grady made 12 saves in the cage to become the third goalkeeper in program history with more than 300 career stops, bringing her total to 309. It marked her ninth game this season — and 15th of her career — with 10 or more saves.
On the defensive end, Grace Callahan and Maya Rutherford each tallied two caused turnovers. Callahan also picked up three ground balls, while Rutherford added two.
Offensively, Kaylee Dyer notched six points with four goals and two assists, and Calli Norris scored a career-high five goals. Jill Smith recorded her ninth hat trick of the season. Julia Schwabe had two assists, and Jane Fetterolf added a goal.
Smith led U-M with seven draw control wins. Freshman Emma Burke added five draw controls, and Ava Class chipped in one. The Wolverines outdrew Johns Hopkins 13-6 and outshot the Blue Jays 34-23.
Norris opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the contest off a feed from Schwabe. Johns Hopkins (10-4, 4-2 Big Ten) tied the game with just over four minutes remaining in the first quarter, but Smith assisted Dyer less than two minutes later to give U-M a 2-1 lead heading into the second.
Smith and Dyer scored back-to-back goals to open the second quarter. The Blue Jays netted their second and final goal with 10:02 left in the frame before Michigan responded with four straight goals, including two from Norris, to take an 8-2 lead into halftime.
