BALTIMORE, Md. -- Behind a 69 (-1) from senior Yuqi Liu and 71s from the freshman duo of Dean Muratore and RJ Arone, the University of Michigan men's golf team carded a 283 (+3) second-round team total on Saturday (April 26) to move up two positions to 12th place with a 571 36-hole total at the Big Ten Championships held at the Baltimore Country Club's Five Farms East Course.
After opening with a 288 during Friday's first round, Michigan shaved off five strokes on day two. The Maize and Blue moved up two spots to 12th with their 571 two-day total. Illinois remained atop the leaderboard at 552 (-8), followed by Oregon (558) and Indiana (559).
Starting from the 10th tee, Liu posted three birdies (Nos. 11, 17, 18) on his first nine holes, pacing him to a 69 -- U-M's first sub-par round of the championship. Sitting at even-par 140 (71-69), Liu climbed 12 spots into a tie for 17th overall.
Hunter Thomson remained among the top 25, tying for 24th after rounds of 70 and 72 for a 142 total. Muratore's second-round 71 helped him move up nine positions into a tie for 32nd (143), while Arone's matching 71 has him tied for 81st (149) alongside fifth-year senior Ben Hoagland (75-74/149).
Michigan is scheduled to play its final round on Sunday (April 27), grouped with USC and Purdue, beginning at 8 a.m. ET.
