Jarema Takes Steeplechase Silver, U-M Eighth at B1G Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team is in eighth place after the second day of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships with 15 points following Caleb Jarema's second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday (May 17) at Hayward Field.
Jarema stayed in the front of the pack the entire race, starting in eighth before moving to fifth after the first lap. The junior moved up from fifth to second heading into the final lap and finished in 8:42.53 to edge out third-place finisher Sergio Del Barrio of Oregon by just 0.14 seconds to pick up eight team points. Jozef Meyers also ran in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing 24th (9:11.23).
A trio of Wolverines competed in the shot put, with Josh Huisman's fifth-place finish leading the contingent and adding four points to the team tally. Huisman threw for a personal-best 18.88 meters (61 feet, 11.5 inches), the No. 5 mark on the program performers list. Aiden Felty finished 11th with a season-best 18.13m (59-5.75), and Zane Forist finished 13th with a personal-best 17.82m (58-5.75).
Jack Juds (48.65 seconds) and Lawrence Gilliam (48.77) finished 25th and 27th, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Amit Rutman finished 28th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.86.
In the 800-meter run, Camden Law led the Michigan effort with a 12th-place finish (1:48.35). Miles Brown finished 17th (1:48.90), John O'Reilly finished 24th (1:49.74), and Kepler Huntress finished 43rd (1:54.08).
John McNeil advanced to the finals in the long jump, where he finished ninth (7.37m/24-2.25), while Luke Stowasser tied for 10th in the high jump after clearing 2.01m (6-7).
The Maize and Blue will conclude the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Sunday (May 18) at Hayward Field, starting the day at 10:10 a.m. PT with the triple jump.
