EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team concluded the Big Ten Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on Sunday (May 18), tying for 11th place and setting a program 4x100-meter relay record.
Michigan finished with 32Â total team points. Oregon (110) claimed the Big Ten title with Minnesota (81) and Wisconsin (81) sharing a second-place finish.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Amit Rutman, Krish Gupta, Jacob Koerner and Corey Royster finished seventh and broke a 47-year-old record with a time of 39.87. The new standard comes in 0.05 seconds faster than the previous record set in 1978.
Trent McFarland led a contingent of Wolverines in the 1,500-meter run, finishing fourth (3:53.82) just ahead of Brendan Herger in fifth (3:54.21). The duo combined for nine points.
U-M set a pair of top-10 program marks in the 5,000-meter run, with Nolan Clark's 13:43.57 coming in at No. 6 and Luke Venhuizen's 13:48.38 coming in at No. 15. Clark and Venhuizen finished in 12th and 15th, respectively, while Nathan Lopez finished 16th (13:58.14) and Heath McAllister finished 21st (14:02.90).
Tianhao Wei advanced to the finals of the triple jump, placing sixth with a mark of 15.37m (50-5.25).
The Wolverines will continue postseason competition on May 28-31 with the NCAA East First Round in Jacksonville, Fla., at North Florida. Selections will be announced on Thursday (May 22) by the NCAA.
