
Michigan to Host Michigan State in Maize Out, Battle for Big Bear

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan men's soccer team (5-0-2, 2-0-0 Big Ten) will host a Maize Out on Friday (Sept. 26) when in-state rival Michigan State (4-4-0, 1-2-0 Big Ten) visits U-M Soccer Stadium for the annual Battle for Big Bear at 6 p.m. The rivalry clash will air live on Big Ten Network.
Notes
• Michigan is coming off its second Big Ten win of the season, a 1-0 road victory at Washington on Saturday (Sept. 20).
• This season marks the first time U-M has opened conference play with two straight wins since 2020, when it started with victories over Northwestern, Michigan State and Rutgers.
• The Wolverines are ranked No. 5 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, their highest spot since Dec. 4, 2010, when they finished the season ranked No. 4 after reaching the College Cup.
• Graduate student Quin Rogers scored the lone goal against Washington, his third of the season and a new career high. The tally also secured Michigan's first win over the Huskies.
• Goalkeeper Isaiah Goldson recorded his third clean sheet of 2025, making four saves for the second consecutive match. He was named Big Ten and College Soccer News Goalkeeper of the Week.
• Defender Will Baker played the full 90 minutes against Washington, extending his streak to 14 straight matches of playing the entire contest, dating back to Oct. 25, 2024.
• Michigan and Michigan State will meet for the 34th time. The Wolverines trail the all-time series, 12-15-6.
• U-M is seeking its first win over the Spartans since 2020, a 1-0 result in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines are 0-1-3 in the series since that victory.
• Tickets are sold out. A limited number of standing-room only tickets will be released one hour before kickoff at the U-M Soccer Stadium Box Office. Verified tickets are also available through SeatGeek, the official marketplace of Michigan Athletics.
• Michigan continues its homestand next week, hosting Chicago State on Wednesday (Oct. 1) at 7 p.m., followed by a Big Ten match against Rutgers on Sunday (Oct. 5) at 2 p.m. for Pups at the Pitch.
