NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List (Feb. 10) -- Gavin DeVooght was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year watch list. He spent his freshman year at Ohio State before transferring to Michigan last season. DeVooght pitched in five games, starting four and amassing 15.2 innings. An injury shut down his season early, but he struck out 14 batters and earned two wins in the opening week of the season over No. 2-ranked Virginia and Stetson. DeVooght was a Big Ten All-Freshman team selection in 2024 at OSU. He is one of 104 players on the watchlist to begin the season and one of 13 from the Big Ten.
Perfect Game Big Ten Preseason Pitcher of the Year (Jan. 22) -- Tate Carey finished his freshman campaign with nine wins, the second most all-time by a Michigan freshman and led the team in ERA at 3.63. The sophomore struck out 51 batters in 57 innings during his first season in Ann Arbor, which was good for a tie for third on the team. He combined for two shutouts, including a no-hitter -- the first by a Wolverine since 1994.
Just Baseball Big Ten Preseason Pitcher of the Year (Jan. 15) -- Tate Carey was chosen as the Preseason Big Ten Pitcher of the Year from Just Baseball Media. The sophomore held a 9-0 record last year with a team-leading 3.63 earned-run average and 1.21 WHIP. He recorded 51 batters over the course of the season and pitched a no-hitter against Akron as a freshman. Last season, Carey earned National College Baseball Writers Association Freshman All-America honors and was selected to the All-Big Ten Freshman team. Carey is the lone Michigan representative on the Preseason All-Conference team.
