ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team took seven singles matches from Xavier to highlight the first day of action at the Michigan Invitational on Friday afternoon (Jan. 16) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Michigan competed against Ohio State in doubles, with Emily Sartz-Lunde and Lily Jones picking up a 6-0 win over Sophia Cisse and Flora Johnson.
The Wolverines went 7-1 on the singles court against the Musketeers, winning all seven matches in straight sets.
Piper Charney picked up her 10th win of the season, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Abby Nugent. Gabriella Lindgren ran her winning streak to five in a 7-5, 7-6 (4) victory over Natalie Smitek to move her record to 11-2 in her freshman campaign.
Ava Bruno, Reese Miller, Laura Maser, Jones and Sartz-Lundealso picked up victories for the maize and blue with the full team in action for the first time since November.
