ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team continued action at the Michigan Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 17), winning six singles matches and sweeping four doubles matches at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Squaring off against Xavier in doubles, Michigan weathered slow starts on multiple courts before sweeping the matches from the Musketeers to move to 5-3Â as a team in doubles action on the weekend.
In singles, U-M took six-of-seven singles matches from Old Dominion. Lily Jones picked up a three-set win over No. 56 Victoria Matasova, winning the first and third sets to get the victory. After picking up a 6-3 first-set win, Jones held a match point in the second but could not convert en route to falling, 7-3, in a tiebreaker. After falling down a break in the early going of the third, Jones got back on serve at 3-3 with the set eventually heading to another tiebreaker. Jones dropped five of the first six points to fall in a 5-1 hole. She went to work from there, ripping off four straight points to tie the breaker at 5-5. She proceeded to fight off match points at 6-5 and 7-6 before converting her own for a 9-7 win.
Gabriella Lindgren dropped the first four games of her match before winning 12 of the next 15 games to move to 2-0 on the weekend with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Uladzislava Manzhos. Reese Miller dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lidiia Rasskouskaia.
Also picking up singles wins on the second day of the tournament were Laura Rahnel, Laura Maser and Emily Sartz-Lunde.
