Wolverines Complete Play at Michigan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team completed play at the Michigan Invitational on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 18) at the Varsity Tennis Center. U-M faced Old Dominion in doubles and Ohio State in singles, with one singles match coming against Xavier.
Michigan went 2-1 on the doubles court against the Monarchs, with both wins coming against ranked teams. Emily Sartz-Lunde and Reese Miller earned a 6-3 victory over the No. 20-ranked duo of Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova, using a late break to secure the win. Piper Charney and Gabriella Lindgren added a 6-3 win of their own over No. 66-ranked Victoria Matasova and Kira Matushkina.
Lily Jones wrapped up a 3-0 weekend on the singles court with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 14-ranked Teah Chavez of Ohio State. Jones took advantage of early breaks in the second and third sets to finish the weekend undefeated in singles play.
Also completing perfect weekends on the singles court with wins over Ohio State on the final day were Miller, Sartz-Lunde and Laura Maser. Miller did not drop a set across her three matches.
Michigan opens dual-match action next weekend (Jan. 24-25), hosting the ITA Kickoff at the Varsity Tennis Center. Joining U-M at the event are Penn, Vanderbilt and Notre Dame. Each team is guaranteed two matches, with the winner advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Michigan opens play Saturday (Jan. 24) against Penn at 10 a.m.
