
Michigan Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team; Lopez Named All-Academic Athlete

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Nathan Lopez of the University of Michigan men's cross country team earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Athlete honors, as announced by the organization Thursday (Jan. 29). In addition to the individual honors, the Wolverines were named an All-Academic Team for the 14th time in 15 years.
Lopez, a business administration major, was Michigan's top finisher at the NCAA Championships, placing 102nd with a personal best time of 29:36.3. The Lynnfield, Mass., native was also the team's lead runner at the Big Ten Championships and NCAA Great Lakes Regional, finishing 11th (23:41.6) and 14th (30:08.3), respectively. Lopez earned All-Big Ten second team honors as well as All-Region honors for his efforts.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top 25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
To qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period. U-M posted a GPA of 3.337. Oklahoma State was named the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year, with 95 other programs earning the honor.
The Wolverines, led by director of track and field and cross country Kevin Sullivan, met that standard for the 12th consecutive year.
