The University of Michigan men's cross country team concluded its 2025 season with a pair of top-five postseason finishes and trio of Wolverines garnering All-Big Ten and All-Region honors.


Team Highlights
• The Wolverines competed in a pair of scored meets in the regular season, finishing 18th of 31 (489 points) at the Gans Creek Classic on Sept. 26 and was 15th of 32 (427) at the Nuttycombe Invitational on Oct. 17. Nathan Lopez led the team in both races, seeing a personal-best time of 23:14.9 over 8 kilometers at the Gans Creek Classic.
• The Maize and Blue placed fourth of 15 (100) at the Big Ten championships, improving on its fifth-place finish in 2024 and coming just 10 points shy of third place. Four Wolverines finished in the top 30 and a trio of runners finished in the top-15. Lopez led the contingent with an 11th-place finish while Trent McFarland (23:46.9) and Luke Venhuizen (23:47.7) finished neck-and-neck in 14th and 15th place, respectively. Caleb Jarema was just shy of a top-25 finish, placing 27th with a time of 24:05.4).
• After a sixth-place finish in last season's Great Lakes Regional, Michigan finished fifth in 2025 to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. Six runners finished in the top 50 and three finished in the top 25, with Lopez's 14th-place finish and personal-best time of 30:08.21 leading the team.Â
• Michigan returned to the NCAA Championships after missing out in 2024, marking the fourth time in five years the team has advanced to the championship race. Lopez led the team, finishing 102nd (29:36.3) and shaving 32 seconds off his previous best. All seven runners improved on their NCAA Great Lakes Regional times, and the team's average time was 33 seconds faster.


Indivdual Highlights
• Lopez, Venhuizen and McFarland all earned second team All-Big Ten honors and All-Region honors. This is the second straight year Venhuzien has been named All-Region.
• Lopez was the lead Michigan runner in five races, including all three postseason competitions, setting personal best times in the 10K at both the NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships.
• Sophomore Brendan Herger and freshman Luke Alverson made their cross country debuts this season, with both competing in all three championship meets.
• Kyler McNatt was named Michigan's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
