
Michigan Upsets No. 5 Florida in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team upset No. 5 Florida, 12-10, on Friday (Feb. 13) at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
Michigan (1-1) secured its first-ever win over Florida (0-1) and its fifth victory against a top-five program, with the previous win coming April 13, 2025, against No. 5 Johns Hopkins.
The Wolverines erased a 3-0 first-quarter deficit in a game that featured four ties and two lead changes, including a 10-10 deadlock with 13:50 remaining in the fourth. Junior Emma Bradbury scored the game-winner with 9:19 left, picking up a rebound and finishing into the back of the cage. Sophomore Brynne Grant added an insurance goal with 3:22 remaining as U-M snapped Florida's 10-game home winning streak.
Senior Calli Norris led the Wolverines with three goals, while Bradbury, Ceci Stein and Grant each added two. Sophomore Caroline Byrd dished out two assists, and Emma Burke controlled the draw with nine wins. Norris and Ava Class added three draw controls apiece as Michigan won the draw battle, 16-8.
Defensively, Michigan caused six turnovers and collected 15 ground balls, with Emma Arico securing a team-best three. In goal, Elizabeth Johnson earned her first collegiate win with six saves.
Florida opened with a 3-0 run before Grant sparked a 3-0 Michigan response, capped by back-to-back goals from Norris. The teams traded goals late in the first quarter to enter the second tied, 4-4.
Katharine Merrifield gave Michigan its first lead seconds into the second quarter before Florida answered to even the score at 5-5. The Wolverines responded with a 3-0 run, including two goals from Stein and one from Peyton Shreves, to build an 8-5 advantage.
Bradbury added another goal late in the half, and Florida countered once as Michigan carried a 9-6 lead into halftime. The Wolverines placed 11 of 14 first-half shots on goal and controlled the draw, 11-5, with Burke winning six.
Florida outscored Michigan, 2-1, in the third quarter as U-M maintained a 10-8 edge entering the final 15 minutes.
The Gators tied the contest early in the fourth before Bradbury delivered the decisive goal. Grant sealed the win with an insurance score in the closing minutes.
Michigan remains in Florida and will travel to USF on Sunday (Feb. 15) for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Bulls on ESPN+.
