
Ross Clocks 800-Meter Program Record to Highlight U-M’s Split-Site Weekend

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team recorded one program record and four top-10 marks on Saturday (Feb. 14) while competing at two meets -- the Heartland Invitational at the Fall Creek Pavilion and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.

Emmry Ross finished seventh in the 800-meter run invite section with a personal-best time of 2:02.31 to set the program record. Ross is just the second person in program history to break 2:03.00. Stephanie Bertram finished 13th with a time of 2:05.47, 0.41 seconds shy of her personal best.
In the 800-meter run open section, Coraline Haggarty placed first (2:06.79) while Alyna Lewis finished 13th (2:08.46), both posting personal bests.
Penelopea Gordon took second in the mile run open section with a personal-best time of 4:38.05, the No. 10 time on the program performers list. Hannah Pricco (4:44.98) and Caroline Beiting (4:48.83) also logged personal bests, finishing 15th and 36th, respectively. Samantha Hastie placed 41st with a season-best time of 4:41.50 in the invite section.
Rylee Tolson posted a personal-best time of 9:24.80 to finish 41st in the 3,000-meter run and shave four seconds off her previous best. Anjali Hocker Singh led a quartet of Wolverines in the 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 16:26.76, shaving 20 seconds off her previous best. Brooke Johnston (16:27.42) finished 56th, Gabbie Michael (16:33.27) finished 63rd and Sophie Cloutier (17:21.91) finished 119th. Michael's time is nearly 30 seconds faster than his previous best.
Heartland Invitational
Three Wolverines finished in the top five of the 200-meter dash, with freshman Keyanna O'Tey finishing first to lead the trio. Her time of 23.75 is a new personal best and the No. 5 time on the program performers list. Amare Harlan placed third with a season-best time of 23.83 and Payton Smith finished just behind her in fourth with a time of 23.97.
Elizabeth Tapper and Abigail Russell finished in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the shot put invite section. Tapper threw for a season best 17.36m (56-11.5) and Russell threw for a personal-best 17.00m (55-9.25), the No. 2 mark on the program performer's list. Russell is just the second Wolverine to break 17.00m, along with program record-holder, Tapper.
Iliana Downing placed third in the pole vault invite section, clearing a personal-best 3.95m (12-11.5) to tie for the No. 7 mark on the program performers list. Kourtney Rathke also cleared 3.95m to finish fourth.
Michigan will return home to host the Silverston Invitational on Sunday (Feb. 20) at 2 p.m. at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
