MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team strengthened its grip on second place on Friday (Feb. 27) at the Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at Soderholm Aquatic Center. The Wolverines trail only Indiana and have a total of 811 points through three days of competition.
It was another solid morning for the Maize and Blue as it put 12 swimmers and two divers into finals, with six of those student-athletes making a championship final.
Luka Mladenovic continued his sparkling meet with a win in the 200-yard breaststroke, setting a new Big Ten Championship meet record with a time of 1:49.34. It is the first time a Wolverine has won both individual breaststroke events in the same meet since Scott Spann accomplished the feat in 2008.
Emmitt Reesor made history on the three-meter springboard, winning the Big Ten title with a score of 398.50. Reesor is the first U-M diver to win a conference crown since 2020 and the first to win on the three-meter board since Matthew Chelich in 1979.
Tyler Ray also found himself back on the podium with a bronze medal in the 50-yard freestyle. The senior powered through the pool in 19.06 seconds to take third overall. Ray set the Michigan, Big Ten and meet records Thursday (Feb. 26) in the 50 free with his leadoff split on the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking an 18.66.
Jack Wilkening finished fifth overall in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 45.12 seconds while Lorne Wigginton secured fifth in the 500-yard freestyle by touching the wall at 4:12.54.

The team of Wilkening, Mladenovic, Ray and Antoine Sauve dethroned Indiana's 10-year hold on the 400-yard medley relay, touching the wall one one-hundreth of a second before the Hoosiers with a time of 3:00.15, a new school record.
