
Two Wolverine Golds, Brown's Collegiate 600-Meter Record Pace U-M to Fourth at B1G Indoors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team concluded the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Saturday (Feb. 28) at Fall Creek Pavilion, picking up a pair of gold medals and setting a collegiate record to finish fourth with 52.5 points.
Oregon claimed the team title for the second straight year with 114 points, while Penn State (96) and Iowa (61) round out the top three.
Miles Brown won the 600-meter run with a time of 1:14.67, setting the collegiate, program, conference, Big Ten Championship meet and Fall Creek Pavilion facility records. The time ranks No. 25 on the world all-time performance list and No. 15 on the USATF all-time performance list. John O'Reilly finished fifth (1:16.58).
Michigan picked up 17 points in the mile run as three Wolverines earned a spot on the podium. Trent McFarland earned his second straight mile run title (4:11.03), with Brendan Herger placing fourth (4:12.89) and Riley Flemington placing seventh (4:13.69).
McFarland led through the first three laps before a pair of Oregon runners pulled ahead and pushed McFarland into third. The junior kicked into gear in the final two laps, running a 25.63-second split on the seventh lap and a 25.60 split on the final lap to retake the lead and the win.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Will Barhite, Malachi Mosley, Krish Gupta and O'Reilly finished seventh with a season-best time of 3:08.73, the No. 4 time on the program performers list. Jake Machiniak picked up two points in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.05 and a seventh-place finish.
Liam Kinney tied for eighth in the pole vault with a mark of 5.23 meters (17 feet, 1.75 inches), the No. 5 mark on the program performers list, and Cole Sheldon tied for 19th with a mark of 5.08m (16-8). The pair achieved personal bests.
McFarland, Brown, Barhite, Herger and Camden Law earned All-Big Ten first-team honors and Neil Howard was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team.
The Maize and Blue will close out its indoor season at the NCAA Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 13-14, in Fayetteville, Ark.
