STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- A season-best score of 197.475 for the No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team lifted it to victory over No. 20 Penn State, Nebraska and Washington at the Big Ten Quad Meet on Saturday night (Feb. 28) at Rec Hall.
Penn State came in second overall with a 197.225, while Nebraska placed third with a 195.200 and Washington finished fourth with a 194.425.
Sophomore Jahzara Ranger won the vault and floor exercise titles, scoring career highs on both with a 9.925 and 9.950, respectively. Junior Kayli Boozer won her sixth balance beam title of the season by tying a career-best 9.950 and Peyton Davis put together a career-best day with a 9.925 on the beam and a 9.900 on vault.
Sophomore Sophia Diaz recorded the Wolverines' fifth career high of the day with a 9.925 on floor in the fifth spot.
Junior Ava Jordan stuck her landing on uneven bars to start the first rotation and Diaz matched Jordan as both earned 9.850s. Freshman Myli Lew built on the score as she tied a career high with a 9.875 and Carly Bauman scored a 9.900 as Michigan earned a 49.200 in the first rotation. Penn State took the lead with a 49.250 in its floor rotation, while Nebraska sat in third with a 48.800 and Washington was in fourth with a 48.775.
Sophie Parenti continued to be the steady leadoff the Wolverines needed on beam, earning a 9.875, and Davis followed with a career-best 9.9245 in the two spot. Following a fall, Bauman went 9.875 and Ranger earned a 9.850 in the five spot. Boozer anchored with her fourth 9.950 of the season as the Wolverines scored a 49.475 to move their running score to 98.675 and took the lead over PSU, which recorded a 98.450 at the halfway point. Nebraska continued to sit in third with a 98.000 and Washington rounded out the meet with a 97.825.
In the third rotation, Davis led off floor with a 9.875 and Diaz scored a career-best 9.925 in the third spot. Ranger anchored with a 9.950 to tie a career best as Michigan went into the final rotation with a 148.150 to lead the field.
Davis capped off her day with a leadoff 9.900 on the vault to secure her second career high, while Boozer and Jordan scored back-to-back 9.825s. Diaz scored a 9.850 and Ranger finished with a stuck landing and a 9.925 to cap off the victory for the Wolverines.
Michigan returns to Crisler Center at 6:45 p.m. on Friday (March 6) for a non-conference meet against Clemson. The meet will be streamed live on B1G+.
