
Wolverines to Host No. 12 Columbia, Tennessee in Home-Opening Weekend

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team hosts No. 12-ranked Columbia on Saturday (Feb. 7) and Tennessee on Sunday (Feb. 8) during its home-opening weekend at the Varsity Tennis Center. Both matches are set for noon and will be streamed on MGoBlue.com.
Notes
• Michigan is 1-3 on the season, with a win over Cornell, losses to a pair of top-10 teams (No. 9 NC State, No. 2 Virginia) and a close 4-3 match at Harvard this past Sunday.
• The Wolverines are 6-4 in their last 10 home openers. They posted an 8-2 mark at the Varsity Tennis Center last season.
• Michigan holds a 5-3 advantage in the series with Columbia, having met in each of the last two seasons and both matches taking place in New York. The Lions ended the Wolverines' season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2024 and took a 4-1 decision last season. Michigan won the previous four meetings.
• Tennessee has a 10-5 edge in the all-time series with U-M, and the teams have met in each of the last three seasons. Michigan won 4-1 last year in Knoxville and posted a 4-1 win at home over the Vols in 2023. Tennessee took a 4-3 match in 2024.
• Max Dahlin is 3-1 at No. 1 singles and leads the team in singles victories with 12. He boasts a 9-2 doubles record, winning two of three this dual season after a run to the NCAA quarterfinals in the fall.
• Bjorn Swenson has won his last two matches, both at No. 2 singles, as he improved to 2-1 in dual play. This season, he owns a 10-5 record and leads the team in career wins, along with Nicholas Steiglehner, with 28.
• Mert Oral picked up his 10th career win last Sunday at Harvard. He is now 2-2 in singles play this season.
• Michigan will play 11 matches at the VTC this season. Upcoming non-conference opponents include Western Michigan and Ball State before the Big Ten season begins. Conference home opponents at include Wisconsin, Nebraska, UCLA, USC, Michigan State, Purdue and Indiana.
