ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (20-3, 11-1 Big Ten) will complete a two-game homestand, welcoming No. 2-ranked UCLA (22-1, 12-0 Big Ten) to Crisler Center on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 8). The game is set for 3 p.m., and can be seen live on Fox. It is Michigan's Pink Game, with fans encouraged to wear pink.
Notes
• First place in the Big Ten is on the line in this game, with UCLA coming in at 12-0 and Michigan in second at 11-1.
• This will be the second meeting between Michigan and UCLA as Big Ten opponents, with the Bruins taking an 86-70 win in Westwood last season. This is UCLA's first trip to Crisler since 2015, when the Bruins came twice - during the 2015 WNIT and the start of a home-and-home series. UCLA leads the all-time series, 5-0.
• Michigan is 11-1 in Big Ten action this season, currently sitting in second in the conference standings. Michigan's 11-1 start in conference play has set a new program standard. Michigan's 11 wins equals last season's total.
• This will mark just the second-ever game at Crisler with both teams in the top 10. The only other game between two top-10 teams to happen at Crisler was on Jan. 31, 2022, between No. 5 Indiana and No. 6 Michigan. U-M came away with a 65-50 win in that contest. This is just the second time a top-two team has come to Crisler Center, the first coming on Feb. 7, 1988, when No. 1 Iowa visited Ann Arbor.
• Michigan has won nine straight Big Ten contests after falling at Washington on Jan. 1. It is the longest winning streak in conference play for Michigan, bettering the eight-game streak from Jan. 9, 2022, to Feb. 2, 2022.
• The game between Michigan and UCLA is between the top two scoring teams in the Big Ten. Michigan leads the way, averaging 87.8 points per game -- good for sixth nationally. UCLA is right behind Michigan in second place in the Big Ten, putting up 86.8 points per game.
• Olivia Olson enters the contest just 15 points away from reaching the 1,000-point mark for her career. She sits at 985 points through 57 games. If she reaches the mark against UCLA, she will tie Katelynn Flaherty (2015-18) as the third-fastest Wolverine to reach the mark. Peg Harte (1982-83) and Diane Dietz (1979-82) each hold the record at 54 games.
• Michigan picked up its 20th win of the season last time out, using a second-half surge to top Nebraska, 88-76. U-M has reached 20 wins in all but one season under Kim Barnes Arico, with the exception coming during the 2020-21 season when Michigan played just 22 games during the COVID pandemic. U-M now has 17 20-win seasons in program history, with 13 coming under KBA.
• Olson has scored in double figures in all 23 of Michigan's games this season, averaging 18.8 points per game on 47.7 percent shooting. She has recorded 11 20-point games and three double-doubles this season. She recorded her 11th 20-point game and third double-double of the season with 21 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two blocks against Nebraska (Feb. 4). Olson ranks eighth in the Big Ten in scoring as one of nine players to average at least 18.0 points per game. Olson has scored in double figures in 29 straight games, dating back to last season. She was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List, the Cheryl Miller Award Top 10 and ranked No. 15 in ESPN's Midseason Player Rankings.
• Syla Swords put up 28 points in Michigan's win over Nebraska, her second 20-point game of the season. Swords knocked down four triples to go with two assists in 38 minutes of action. Swords scored 30 points against the Bruins last year at Pauley Pavilion. She grabbed a spot on the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Top 10 this past week, given to the nation's best shooting guard.
