
Records Fall as U-M Remains Seventh After Day Two of NCAA Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team put on a strong performance Thursday (March 26) at the NCAA Championships to hold its seventh-place position with 115 points after two days of competition.
Tyler Ray got the evening started for the Maize and Blue by placing fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 43.62 seconds. Lorne Wigginton followed up with a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard IM, posting a mark of 3:35.63. Luka Mladenovic closed out the individual events with a time of 50.47 to lower his own school-record time and take fifth in the event.
The quartet of Ole Eidam, Ray, Colin Geer and Jack Wilkening set a new program mark in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:14.64. Michigan finished seventh in a relay for the third straight race.
It was an eventful morning for the Maize and Blue as Ray set a new Big Ten and Michigan record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 43.32 to place third overall in the preliminaries. Wigginton found his way to the championship final in the 400-yard IM with a third-place finish, and Mladenovic took sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke to earn a second swim.
Michigan will return to McAuley Aquatic Center on Friday (March 27) for the third day of the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. Preliminaries will start at 10 a.m., with finals getting underway at 6 p.m.
