
Wolverines to Head to Louisiana Classics to Close Spring Break Trip

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Closing out its spring break trip, the University of Michigan men's golf team travels to Lafayette, La., for its fifth appearance at the Louisiana Classics on Monday and Tuesday (March 9–10). The two-day, 54-hole tournament features a 16-team field and will be contested at Oakbourne Country Club (par 72, 6,866 yards).
Notes
• Michigan is making its fifth appearance at the Louisiana Classics. Throughout its prior four events, the Wolverines were 12th in 2021, tied for 15th in 2022 and were ninth in 2023. In 2024, U-M closed with a 295 to finish sixth with an 865 team total. Former Wolverine standout Hunter Thomson led the Wolverines, posting a 206 (-10) to earn runner-up honors. The 2020 event was canceled due to COVID-19.
• As is the tradition for the Louisiana Classics, the final day and closing hole (No. 9) will be streamed live on ESPN+, with Louisiana Sport Hall of Fame member Dan McDonald calling the action.
• The 2026 Louisiana Classics field will be made up of 16 teams, including East Tennessee State, Illinois State, Lamar, Little Rock, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Michigan, Middle Tennessee State, New Mexico State, North Texas, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston, South Alabama, Southern Illinois, Texas A&M and Texas State.
• U-M will travel five starters as well as four individuals to the Louisiana Classics. The starting five features sophomore RJ Arone, sophomore Dean Muratore, freshman Jordan Hwang, sophomore Nilay Naik and freshman Tristan Wieland, who is making his first collegiate start. Playing as individuals will be sophomore Johnny Solis, sophomore Nicolas Simon, junior Jason Gordon and freshman Jack Harrington.
• Through six events, Michigan has recorded 42 sub-par rounds and holds a 72.06 individual stroke average. As a team, the Wolverines are averaging 282.29 per round, with nine of their 17 team totals coming in under par.
• Michigan has 14 sub-par finishes across its six events and is averaging 215.42 for 54 holes, nearly half a stroke under par. Highlighting those efforts was Muratore's record-setting 196 (-14) at the Jim DeLapa Collegiate -- a U-M program record and just the second sub-200 total in school history.
• Muratore has 11 of his 17 rounds at or below par and leads Michigan with a 70.24 scoring average. He fired a career-low 64 (-6) in the second round of the Jim DeLapa Collegiate, helping him secure his first career individual title.
• Arone has 13 of his 17 rounds at or below par and sits one shot behind Muratore for the team scoring lead with a 70.29 stroke average. He recorded four sub-par 54-hole totals in five fall events, with all four producing top-15 finishes, highlighted by a career-best tie for fifth at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational (208, -8). Arone also posted a career-low 205 (-11) at the Island Resort Intercollegiate.
• In his first season, Hwang continues to impress, averaging 72.94 per round and starting five of six events. He has six sub-par tallies, including a career-low 67 (-5) in the second round of the Island Resort Intercollegiate -- his first career event.
