DALLAS, Texas -- Junior Danielle Lund (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS), the first University of Michigan women's tennis player to play in the Rolex National Indoor Championships, was ousted from the tournament on Friday (Feb. 5) with a first-round loss in the consolation bracket.
Lund, ranked 28th nationally in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, dropped a three-set decision (3-6, 6-3, 4-6) to 34th-ranked Carolijn van Rossum of William & Mary. Lund finished the prestigious tournament with an 0-2 record, including a first-round defeat to No. 33 Karen Goldstein of Duke (5-7, 1-6).
Lund was one of 32 players in the women's singles field at the event, held at the Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas, Texas. The only player from the Big Ten Conference selected to the field, Lund has a 9-8 singles record this year and is 6-2 against regional opponents.
