ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior Fred Richard of the No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team has been named the 2026 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday (April 1).
Richard is currently ranked 11th nationally on pommel horse (13.983), ninth on still rings (13.900), fourth on parallel bars (14.017) and fifth on high bar (13.800). His all-around score of 82.950 against Nebraska on March 22 stands as the top mark in the NCAA this season.
He has captured six event titles this year -- including three on parallel bars -- and has earned four weekly honors from the Big Ten and the College Gymnastics Association.
Richard earns the Gymnast of the Year distinction for the second time in his career after previously receiving the honor in 2024. He was also named a 2026 Nissen-Emery Award finalist.
Fellow team captain Zach Granados was recognized as Michigan's Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree.
Richard will help lead the Wolverines into the Big Ten Championships on April 3-4 in Lincoln, Neb., as Michigan looks to secure its sixth consecutive conference title.
