
Miller, Charney Named CSC Academic All-District

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Piper Charney and Reese Miller of the University of Michigan women's tennis team each earned Academic All-District honors by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday afternoon (May 12). It is the second straight selection for the junior duo.
Charney, a business administration major in Ross, earned All-America honors in singles for the second straight season after reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship. She earned All-Big Ten first-team honors and a spot on the all-tournament team at the Big Ten Tournament. Currently ranked No. 8 in singles and as high as No. 3, Charney went 24-11 in singles during her junior season. She compiled a 13-8 dual-match record, going 10-4 at No. 1 singles with a straight-set win over No. 2 Reese Brantmeier.
Also a business administration major, Miller recorded the first 30-win season of her career as a junior. Moving up to No. 3 in the singles lineup after playing at No. 5 last season, Miller went 20-5 in dual matches en route to a 31-10 overall singles record. She was named to the All-Big Ten first team and has been ranked in singles all season. She is currently No. 105 in singles and No. 66 in doubles with Laura Rahnel. She tied for the team lead in combined singles and doubles wins, compiling 54 total wins between the two courts.
Michigan went 21-7 this past season, winning its fourth straight Big Ten championship and fourth Big Ten Tournament title in the last five years. U-M hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament en route to its fourth straight Sweet 16 before falling at No. 5 North Carolina, 4-2, this past weekend (May 8).
