ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Piper Charney of the University of Michigan women's tennis team collected another honor, receiving third-team Academic All-America honors from CSC on Tuesday (June 2). She is the third Wolverine in program history to earn All-America recognition, joining Kari Miller (2024) and Julia Fliegner (2025). She had earned back-to-back all-district honors over the last two seasons prior to this year's All-America recognition.
Charney, a business administration major in Ross, is the fourth Wolverine to earn Academic All-America honors this academic year.
Earning ITA All-America honors for the second straight season after reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship, Charney became the sixth Wolverine in program history to earn multiple singles citations. She finished ranked No. 8 in the final singles rankings, going 24-11 in singles during her junior season. Charney compiled a 13-8 dual-match record, going 10-4 at No. 1 singles with a straight-set win over No. 2 Reese Brantmeier. She earned All-Big Ten first-team honors and a spot on the all-tournament team at the Big Ten Tournament.
Charney also earned a singles berth in the American Collegiate Player Wildcard Playoffs with a chance to qualify for the 2026 US Open.
Michigan went 21-7 this past season, winning its fourth straight Big Ten championship and fourth Big Ten Tournament title in the last five years. U-M hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament en route to its fourth straight Sweet 16 before falling at No. 5 North Carolina, 4-2.
