LINCOLN, Neb. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team opened the postseason on Friday (May 15) at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships at the Nebraska Outdoor Track, with three Wolverines advancing to Sunday's finals.
Three Wolverines will compete for the 1,500-meter run title after Brendan Herger (3:43.24), Riley Flemington (3:44.01) and Trent McFarland (3:50.20) advanced to Sunday's finals. Herger and McFarland won their heats and Flemington qualified on time. Aiden Sullivan (3:46.09) was 0.18 seconds shy of qualifying on time.
Jake Machiniak ran a personal-best 20.55 (+2.9m/s) in the 100-meter dash prelims, coming just 0.11 seconds shy of advancing to the finals. Had the time been wind-legal, he would have improved upon the program record he set earlier this month.
Michigan will continue competition at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Saturday (May 16), opening day two with the 400-meter dash preliminaries at 3:40 p.m. CT.
