Following three years as a member of the University of Michigan women's gymnastics team (2011-13), Stephanie Colbert will serve her final season in the Maize and Blue as an undergraduate student assistant coach. She was named to the coaching staff on Sept. 19, 2013.
Colbert underwent wrist surgery in late August 2013. In her recovery, it was recommended by doctors that she no longer compete due to the high risk of long-term damage.
Primarily a vault and floor exercise specialist, Colbert contributed to two NCAA Championships appearances, two Big Ten titles (including 2013 Big Ten regular season championship) and one NCAA Super Six berth (2011). During her sophomore and junior seasons, Colbert's role on the team grew, officially competing in 25 meets (12 in 2012, 13 in 2013). She held career highs of 9.900 on both vault and floor exercise, 9.725 on balance beam, 9.700 on uneven bars and 38.650 in the all-around. Colbert was also one of the brightest students on the team, earning three NACGC/W Scholastic All-America honors and two Academic All-Big Ten selections.
A native of Naperville, Ill., Colbert will graduate in May 2014 with a degree in psychology and plans to apply to graduate school in the fall of 2014.
