He started his collegiate coaching career at Iona College, where he helped two pitchers earn All-MAAC accolades and set a program record for strikeouts in a season.
Cornwell played for Indianapolis for three seasons before finishing his collegiate career at the University of Pittsburgh. With the Greyhounds, he led the team to a pair of NCAA Division II Tournament appearances and pitched in the team’s GLVC Tournament Championship game win. He played one year in the Frontier League with the Traverse City Beach Bums before earning a master’s in athletic coaching education at Ball State in 2019.
He graduated from UIndy with a bachelor’s in sport management in 2016.
