Lucia Belassi White is in her ninth season as an assistant coach for the Michigan field hockey team. A Michigan alumna (2004-07), she excelled both on and off the field, earning NFHCA All-America distinction, Big Ten Conference Co-Player of the Year in 2007 and NFHCA National Academic Squad recognition.
Since joining the Michigan coaching staff, White has helped guide Michigan to three Big Ten titles (2010, '11, '17). Most recently, the Wolverines swept the Big Ten regular-season and tournament crowns in 2017 and recorded a program-record 21 wins, including 18 in a row, en route to the NCAA Final Four.
U-M has produced 14 All-Americans since White's arrival on staff, including four-time honoree Rachael Mack (2010-13), fellow first-teamers Lauren Thomas (2012-15) and Katie Trombetta (2014-17) and the program's first All-America goalkeeper, Sam Swenson (2014-17).
White played 91 career games as a for the Wolverines, scoring 33 goals and 19 assists for 85 points. She led U-M in goals and points in each of her last two seasons, earning NFHCA All-West Region and Big Ten first team honors both years. A U-M team co-captain as a senior (2007), White was also named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Year and an NFHCA First Team All-American.
During White's collegiate career, she contributed to two Big Ten regular-season titles (2004, '07) and a pair of Big Ten Tournament crowns (2004, '05). Michigan qualified for the NCAA Tournament in three of her collegiate seasons (2004, '05, '07) and advanced to the quarterfinal round in each appearance.
She was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Team honoree (2005, '06, '07) and received a U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award in each of her four years.
Originally from Paysandu, Uruguay, White graduated from U-M in 2008 with a degree in linguistics. She received a master's degree in sports management from Eastern Michigan University in 2014. She is married to former Wolverine wrestler Casey White (2006-07) and has two children, Eliana and Skyler.
