Reiter joined the University of Michigan coaching staff in 2023, working primarily with the team's goaltenders.Â
In his first season with the Wolverines, in 2023-24, the program reached the Big Ten Tournament Championship and the Frozen Four. Goaltender Jake Barczewski set a personal record with 20 wins during the 2023-24 campaign. He was the NCAA active leader in saves during the season, finishing his career with 3,730 saves. Barczewski was named to the NCAA All-Region team after a 62-save performance in wins over No. 5 North Dakota and No. 4 Michigan State.Â
The 2025-26 season culminated in another Frozen Four after winning the Big Ten Tournament Championship. The No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Wolverines were ranked No. 1 in the nation for 15 weeks during the regular season including an 11-week streak. That 11-week run was the program's longest atop the polls since the 1996-97 team was ranked first from mid-November through the season's end. During the season,the Wolverines to five road sweeps, the most in a single season in program history. The winningest team in the NCAA this season, the squad had 31 victories - a 13-win improvement from last season. The Wolverines were picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten and began the season ranked No. 12. Netminder Jack Ivankovic was named the NCAA Albany Regional MVP after earning a place on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. Ivankovic posted a 25-8-1 record during the season with a .921 save percentage. Backup netminder Stephen Peck went 6-0 during a run in January when he was called upon after an injury to Ivankovic.Â
Reiter came to Ann Arbor from the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, where he was the USNTDP goaltending coach from 2013-17 before being named director of player personnel in 2017. Reiter’s responsibilities with the NTDP included overseeing the Warren Strelow Goaltending Mentor Program, coaching the NTDP goalies, evaluating, recruiting and educating prospective national team players and families.
He has won seven gold medals with the USA, including: four gold medals at the IIHF U18 Men’s Worlds (2014, 2015, 2017, 2023) and three gold medals at the World U17 Hockey Challenge (2014, 2017, 2023). He also won a silver medal at the 2020 Youth Olympic Games, a bronze medal at the World Junior Championship in 2016 and a bronze medal at the Men’s World Championships in 2021.
Prior to joining the USNTDP, Reiter spent two seasons coaching professionally in Italy. He acted as the assistant and goaltending coach of the WSC Sterzing-SSI Vipiteno Broncos, as well as coached their junior teams. While in Italy, Reiter served as goaltending consultant for the Italian Men’s National Team during the 2012 IIHF World Championships.
A 2004 graduate of the University of Alaska-Anchorage, Reiter played four years for the Seawolves while earning a degree in business management. He followed with a seven-year professional career, from 2004-11, in various leagues in North America and Europe. In 2008, he was named the International Hockey League Goalie of the Year and won a Turner Cup Championship with the Fort Wayne Komets. He earned a master’s in business administration at the University of Winchester (England) while playing two seasons in the Elite Hockey League.
