EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team completed the fall tournament season by competing at the ITA Region IV Championships held this weekend at the Michigan State University Indoor Tennis Facility.
Four of the five Michigan singles competitors posted opening-round victories but dropped out of the tournament with second-round losses. Senior William Farah (Flint, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) posted the team's best performance of the tournament, reaching the third round of singles action before losing to eventual tournament semifinalist Cris James of Purdue (2-6, 4-6). Farah finished with a 2-1 record.
In doubles, the Wolverines' two teams won opening-round matches but lost in the second round to the tournament's top two seeded doubles teams. Farah and junior Brad McFarlane (Kingston, Ontario/Bayridge Secondary HS) lost 8-1 to No. 1 seeded Cary Franklin and Oliver Freelove of Illinois. Junior Matt Wright (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Collegiate HS) and freshman Danny McCain (Largo, Fla./The Canterbury School) lost 9-8 (7-3 in the tie-breaker) to second-seeded Jeff Laski and Gavin Sontag of Illinois.
