ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- On the strength of a five-point performance from forward Amber Berendowsky (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS), the University of Michigan women's soccer team picked up its second Big Ten Conference victory with a 3-1 decision over Iowa.
The Wolverines got off to a sluggish start and then drew first blood when Emily Schmitt (Troy, Mich./Athens HS) converted a cross from Berendowsky at 24:37.
Berendowsky would go on to add two more goals, her fifth and sixth of the season. The junior now has 31 career goals, one shy of tying Ruth Poulin (1994-97) for the school career goals record.
Jessica Jones (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) went the distance in net. A Hawkeye goal in the closing minutes spoiled Jones' attempt at her second shutout in as many games.
Michigan continues Big Ten play Sunday (Oct. 4) at 1 p.m. as the Wolverines host Minnesota at the Michigan Soccer Field.
