KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Three University of Michigan freshman men's tennis players began their collegiate careers at the Western Michigan Invitational this past weekend (Oct. 2-4).
Danny McCain (Largo, Fla./The Canterbury School), Henry Beam (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS) and Ben Cox (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) all started their collegiate careers with victories in first-round action but dropped second-round matches in the "A Flight." In doubles, Beam and McCain combined for a 1-1 record, winning their first match in the "A Flight."
Michigan will send nine players to the All-American Championships sponsored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association next weekend (Oct. 10-12). The Wolverines will compete in the pre-qualifying portion of the singles and doubles tournaments.
