SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to fourth-ranked Notre Dame in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The 18th-ranked Wolverines close the season with a 14-7-1 record.
The Fighting Irish opened the scoring at 21:11 when Monica Gerardo scored following a corner kick by Shannon Boxx and header by Jen Grubb. Notre Dame built its lead to 2-0 going into the half when Boxx put a 20-yard blast to the top shelf with four and a half minutes remaining in the first half.
The only goal of the second half came at 77:04 as Gerardo took a feed from Boxx and broke free on keeper Carissa Stewart (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat HS) to the put the Irish up 3-0. Stewart, whose record fell to 7-5-1, made eight saves for Michigan, which was held without a shot in the second half.

• Michigan is now 1-2 all-time in NCAA Tournament play, with a win over Xavier this year and losses at Nebraska in 1997 and Notre Dame in 1998.
• The U-M loss was the Wolverines' second to Notre Dame in just over three weeks. The Irish defeated Michigan 1-0 in double overtime on Oct. 23 in Ann Arbor.
