Wolverines Roll Over UMass in Soccer Home Opener

ANN ARBOR, MICH. -- The Michigan women's soccer team opened up the first day of the Michigan Challenge Cup with a convincing 5-1 rout of Massachusetts on Friday (Sept. 11).
The Wolverines got on the board just 1:04 into the match when Laurie Peterson (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) registered her first collegiate goal. Senior Jessica Limauro (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) finished off the Minutewomen with a two-goal, one-assist day. Amber Berendowsky (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) and Shannon Poole (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) added the other goals.
Carissa Stewart (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat HS) started in net and gave way to Jessica Jones (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) to finish off the contest. Massachusetts' lone goal was scored on Stewart.
Michigan returns to action in the Michigan Challenge Cup against Detroit at 2 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 13). Detroit dropped a 4-2 decision to Evansville in the first match Friday.
