ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The eighth-ranked Michigan field hockey team upped its record to 8-2 by beating the Louisville Cardinals 6-1 in front of 241 spectators at Ocker Field.
Sophomore Tamra Geryk (Hatfield, Mass./Williston Northampton HS) was the story of the game as she netted four goals, including the game-winner. It was the second hat trick of the season for Geryk, who leads the Wolverines with seven goals.
Loveita Wilkinson (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) netted her fifth goal of the season on a penalty corner play and Ashley Thomas (West Chester, Pa./Unionville HS) scored her first career goal. Lindsay Babbitt (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson HS), Kelli Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS), and Courtney Reid (South Deerfield, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon HS) each had two assists as every player on the U-M roster played.
"It was a good game for us to work on some things that needed some improvement," said Michigan head coach Marcia Pankratz. "It was great for our young players because each of them got in the game. Louisville is a very young team with a great coaching staff. They are definitely an up-and-coming program."
