LaRosa's two-out, two-run single in the second inning, Michigan's first hit of the afternoon, proved to be the game-winning hit. LaRosa's single knocked in Fox, who had reached on an error as the designated hitter, and sophomore catcher Alex Coleman (Dallas, Texas/Lake Highlands HS), who had reached after being hit by a pitch. The runners moved up on a wild pitch and scored on the single.
Fox smashed a long, two-run home run in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.
Junior RHP Bobby Korecky (Saline, Mich./Saline HS), the first of eight Wolverine pitchers, recorded the win in the eight-inning contest. Korecky allowed one hit in his two innings of work, but faced just six batters. He was the only Wolverine to work two innings. The varsity pitching committee of eight pitchers allowed just four hits in the game and faced the minimum three batters in five innings.
Veteran RHP Mark Temple (1993-96), an All-Big Ten first team selection in 1996, was the starter and loser for the Alumni. Temple worked two innings and allowed a pair of unearned runs.
Bobby Scales, captain and team MVP in 1999, was 3-for-3 in a losing cause for the Alumni with singles in the first, fifth and eighth innings. The other Alumni hit was a run-scoring single by 1994 captain Kevin Crociata (1991-94).
In Sunday's early game featuring a split squad of veterans, former Michigan assistant coaches Craig Forhan (1972-75, assistant coach 1978) and Chuck Froning (1981-84, assistant coach 1988-89) each knocked in a run in the first inning and RHP Mark Clinton (1978-81) worked three innings to earn the win. Current Michigan head coach Geoff Zahn (1966-67, coach since 1996) recorded the save. RHP Mark Temple (1993-96) singled off Clinton in the second inning and scored on a two-out triple by OF Kourtney Thompson (1986-89).
