Maize and Blue Posts Strong Effort at Cannon Classic

Though Michigan did not come away with any individual victories, the Wolverines excelled in many events. The top performance came from Lisa Ouellet (Sudbury, Ontario/Lasalle Secondary), who turned in another impressive showing in the mile run, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships in that event. The senior finished eighth (4:46.94) and posted a season-best time for the second consecutive week.
The Maize and Blue continued its success in the distance events as junior Katie Clifford (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic HS) placed 10th in the 3,000-meter run with a season-best time of 9:43.39. This marked the second consecutive year that Clifford finished in the top 15 at the Cannon Classic in the 3,000 meters.
In the sprints, senior Maria Brown (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception HS) placed 11th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.49, while junior Regine Caruthers (Inglewood, Calif./St. Bernard HS) went on to finish 13th in the 400-meter dash (55.78), posting a season-best time.
Other Wolverines who finished in the top 15 included sophomore Nicole Denamur (Algoma, Wis./Algoma HS) and freshman Tanisha Williams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti HS) in the high jump, sophomore Candice Mullings (Marietta, Ga./Walton HS) and junior Tiffany Sylvertooth (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti HS) in the pole vault, senior Brandi Bentley (Detroit, Mich./Marian HS) in the long jump, sophomore Tasha Phillips (Sarasota, Fla./Booker HS) in the triple jump, freshman April Phillips (Fraser, Mich./Fraser HS) in the shot put and senior Julie Presley (Claremont, Calif./Claremont HS) in the 20-lb. weight throw.
Michigan closes out the regular-season portion of its indoor schedule by hosting the Silverston Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 19), starting at noon at the Indoor Track Building.
