Brown, Caruthers Lead Michigan at Meyo Invitational

The top performance came from senior Maria Brown (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception HS), who won the 200-meter dash by posting her best time of the season (24.33) and placed second in the 60-meter dash (7.50). Following Brown in the 200 was freshman Carly Knazze (Southfield, Mich./Southfield HS), who ran a career-best time of 24.62.
The Wolverines produced a solid effort in the distance and middle-distance events as well. In Michigan's other victory, junior Regine Caruthers (Inglewood, Calif./St. Bernard HS) captured the 500-meter run by posting a time of 1:13.62. The Maize and Blue also did well in the mile and 5,000-meter runs as senior Lisa Ouellet (Sudbury, Ontario/Lasalle Secondary) placed second in the mile (4:49.92) and junior Katie Ryan (Rochester, Mich./Rochester Adams HS) finished runner-up in the 5,000 (17:05.82).
In the field, Tanisha Williams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti HS) came in second in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 5 inches, while Julie Presley (Claremont, Calif./Claremont HS) put together her best toss of the year in the 20-lb. weight throw (50 feet, 6 3/4 inches) and finished third in the event.
Michigan continues its indoor season at the Cannon Classic in Indianapolis, Ind., next Friday and Saturday (February 11-12).
N O T E S
Maria Brown's time of 24.33 in the 200-meter dash is the best in the Big Ten this year. Brown has posted the fastest time in the 200 meters in her last three meets.
Lisa Ouellet's time of 4:49.92 in the mile is currently fifth best in the Big Ten. Ouellet also owns the best time in the Big Ten for the 800-meter run (2:10.69).
Katie Ryan's time of 17:05.82 in the 5,000-meter run is the best time in the Big Ten.
