WALNUT, Calif. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team sent a pair of athletes out west to compete in the elite Mt. San Antonio College (SAC) Relays on Friday and Saturday (April 14-15). Despite sending only two athletes the Wolverines received their best individual effort of the outdoor campaign.
Katie Clifford (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic HS) placed second in the 10,000-meter run on Friday. Her time of 34:15.36 was 2.6 tenths of a second behind unattached competitor Beth Niednagel. Clifford's time provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Clifford has already provisionally qualified for the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:27.04, which she ran at the Stanford Invitational (March 25).
Wolverine thrower Julie Presley (Claremont, Calif./Claremont HS) returned to her home state to compete, but her results were not available at time this story was posted.
