Kosanke put the first of three first-inning Michigan runs on the board with her solo shot to left-center field. The third baseman added two more singles to finish the game 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs. U-M added a run on Young's RBI single to center field and scored Stefanie Volpe (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth-Salem HS) from third on a stolen base to end the inning.
The second Michigan inning was as productive as the first. Rebecca Tune (Aloha, Ore./Jesuit HS) came home on Kosanke's single down the right-field line. Kosanke put run No. 5 on the scoreboard, courtesy of a bases-loaded infield fielder's choice by Young followed by a Melissa Taylor (Petersburg, Mich./Summerfield HS) score on Melinda Moulden's (LaCrescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley HS) left-field single.
Michigan went ahead 7-0 in the third when Mary Conner (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion HS) scored on a first-base throwing error by Penn State's Jennifer Tripken. The game ended in the fifth when pinch hitter Liz Elsner (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth-Canton HS) drove in Kosanke on a center-field single.
Young held Penn State to five hits and allowed one walk in recording her team-leading 13th win of the season (13-1). The freshman is 4-0 vs. the Big Ten. Starter Jaci Kalp (13-5) took the loss for the Nittany Lions.
Michigan (32-8, 9-1 Big Ten) and Penn State (24-10, 5-1 Big Ten) complete their two-game series with a 1 p.m. game Sunday (April 16) at Alumni Field. The four Wolverine seniors -- Kosanke, Melissa Gentile (O'Fallon, Mo./Wentzville HS), Jamie Gillies (Saugus, Calif./Saugus HS) and Karmen Lappo (Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon HS) -- will be honored before the start of the game.

Junior Courtney Murdock (Barrington, Ill./Barrington HS) made her first career start for the Wolverines, playing at first base.
Pam Kosanke's home run is her second of the season and fifth of her career, moving her into a five-way tie for ninth place on the Michigan career home run list.
Michigan extended its series win streak vs. Penn State to 15 games, winning its 25th game in the all-time series (25-1).
