Wolverine Women Win Pair of Events at Hillsdale Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team, which competed at the Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday (April 28-29), also sent several competitors to the Hillsdale Relays on Saturday (April 29). The Wolverines delivered solid performances in both the middle distances and the field events, paced by Erin White's (Battle Creek, Mich./Central HS) victory in the 1,500-meter run (4:36.15).

White's time of 4:36.15 in the 1,500-meter run is the third best by a Wolverine in the outdoor season and shaved nearly five seconds off her previous season best of 4:41.10, which she recorded at the Sea Ray Relays (April 15).

Michigan's other event championship came from Charo Sweet in the triple jump, with a mark of 37-4 3/4. Sweet was one of two Wolverines among the top three in that event as Djenawa Watkins (Atlanta, Ga./Duluth HS) placed third with a leap of 35-7 1/2.

Another positive for the Wolverines came in the 800-meter run, where former Big Ten champion Adrienne Hunter (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS), who is coming back from an injury that shelved her for the Big Ten Indoor Championships, shaved close to three seconds off her previous outdoor season best in that event. Hunter placed second overall in the 800-meter run with a pace of 2:15.33.

The Wolverines will have a busy schedule next weekend with some athletes traveling to Palo Alto, Calif., on Friday (May 5) for the Cardinal Twilight. The rest of the squad will have double duty, competing in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday (May 6) at the Toledo Invitational and on Sunday (May 7) at the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
