Tourney Schedule and Results
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's water polo team swept the competition in day one of the Southern Division Tournament on Saturday (March 24) at Canham Natatorium. The Wolverines quickly took Slippery Rock University to a 15-5 defeat before battling with No. 17 Indiana University to a 6-5 overtime victory.
Freshman Julie Nisbet (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) hit four goals to lead Michigan in the 15-5 romp over Slippery Rock. Following close behind Nisbet was senior tri-captain Melissa Karjala (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS), who notched three goals, including two in the first period when the Wolverines went on a 7-0 run.
The Wolverines continued to pound the ball into the net during the third period, hitting the net six times. Freshman Chelsea Kay (Laguna Hills, Calif./Laguna Beach HS) added two goals for the Maize and Blue, while six others tallied one goal apiece.
Sophomore Stephanie Morse (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) proved essential as Michigan concluded its double-game day with a hard-fought contest with Indiana, ending in a 6-5 overtime win. Hitting the game-winner with 1:06 left in the first overtime, Morse gave the Wolverines their second victory of the day.
Michigan goaltender Camille Clarendon (Redlands, Calif./Redlands HS) made numerous saves during the 34 minutes of play, keeping the game tight. A different Wolverine scored each of U-M's goals, with three coming on power plays. The Wolverines and Hoosiers ended regulation tied at four goals apiece, and Michigan scored one goal in each of the three-minute overtime periods while holding Indiana to a lone tally in the second extra session.
The Wolverines return to Canham Natatorium on Sunday (March 25) to conclude the Division Tournament as well as the 2001 home schedule. Michigan begins with a high-noon showdown with Indiana, before closing with a 3 p.m. matchup against Slippery Rock.

Four-time Big Ten Conference 100-yard backstroke champion Jen Crisman (Grandville, Mich./Jennison HS) made her varsity water polo debut in the game against Slippery Rock and netted her first career goal with 5:40 left in the game.
