ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 11-ranked and No. 3-seeded University of Michigan water polo team dominated No. 6-seeded Mercyhurst, 24-4, on Friday (April 10) at Canham Natatorium in the first round of the CWPA Championships.

Abby Schulz led the Wolverines with six goals in her first game back from injury, while Sophia Bunnell recorded 10 saves over the first three quarters in net.

Michigan controlled the opening period, scoring six goals from six different players. Harriet Dickens opened the scoring three minutes into the game, followed by Emma Gustafsson. Ari Karampetsou, Emilia Mladjan, and Riley Chapple added three quick goals in a one-minute span, before freshman Bailee Swindells capped the run off a well-worked possession.

Kaia Levenfeld and Gustafsson each converted penalty shots for the Maize and Blue, with Gustafsson adding another goal to complete a hat trick. Schulz added her first goal with a spin move in front, while Karampetsou closed the first-half scoring.

The Wolverines remained in control in the third quarter, scoring eight goals. Schulz netted three more to reach a season high, while Ryland Smith scored twice. Dickens, Mladjan, and Swindells each added their second goals of the game.

Schulz added to her total in the final frame, while Dickens completed a hat trick as Michigan closed out the 24-4 victory.

The Wolverines will continue play in the CWPA Semifinals on Saturday (April 11), hosting second-seeded Princeton at 3 p.m. at Canham Natatorium. The game will be streamed on CWPATV, with live stats available on FOSH.
