Michigan Tops Maine in Temple Invitational Consolation

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The University of Michigan field hockey team continued its streak of week-ending shutouts on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 9), blanking Maine by a 1-0 margin in the consolation game of the Temple Invitational.
Freshman Adrienne Hortillosa (Chula Vista, Calif./Bonita Vista HS) netted the game's only marker for the third straight Sunday, scoring just under 15 minutes into the second half. Senior goalkeeper Maureen Tasch (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) made five saves in the win as she established a career high with her fourth shutout of the season. Tasch has posted a shutout in four of her last five starts, including each of the last three Sunday games.
Michigan will remain on the road, traveling to Storrs, Conn., next weekend for a pair of non-conference matchups. The Wolverines will face Connecticut at 11 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 15) before concluding the road trip with a 3 p.m. game against Boston College on Sunday (Sept. 16).

• Sophomore defender Stephanie Johnson (Houston, Texas/The Kinkaid School) made a defensive save in each game at the Temple Invitational, and leads the team with three for the season.
• Maureen Tasch has a career-high four shutouts this season. Her previous best was 3.5 in 2000. Tasch is a perfect 3-0 on Sundays with a 0.00 goals-against average and a 1.000 save percentage.
• Michigan's 1-0 win over Maine marked the second straight shutout of the Black Bears, and the third blanking in the four meetings between the two schools. The Wolverines downed Maine by a 2-0 margin last season.
• Michigan has netted just one goal in four of its last five games, including three straight. The Wolverines are 3-1 when netting a single marker, and have posted a 1-0 score in each of their three Sunday affairs.
• Five of the Wolverines' six games have been decided by one goal, including three of Michigan's four victories. U-M is 3-2 in games decided by a single marker.
